RICHMOND, Va. – Asianae Johnson's 17 points were not enough at the St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team dropped an Atlantic 10 matchup to VCU, 56-47, Thursday evening at the Seigel Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the Bonnies Thursday was Deja Francis with 12 points.
Johnson tied the game at 42-42 in the fourth quarter with 8:17 on the clock. The Rams held the Bonnies scoreless the next 7:09 and pushing their lead to 51-42 in the that time.
Olivia Tucker snapped the cold streak with a three with 1:08 on the clock, bringing the Bonnies back within six, 51-45.
VCU made 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to ice the game, taking the victory 56-47.
The Bonnies came out of the locker room after halftime and opened the third, gaining a four-point lead twice in the period.
Francis' basket and free throw put the Bonnies up four, 36-32, with 5:06 left on the clock. Olivia Brown's layup with 3:20 to play in the period once again gave the Bonnies a four-point, 38-34, edge in the quarter.
Danielle Hammond's layup with 1:27 on the clock in the third, tied the game 40-40 going into the final frame.
The Bonnies offense came to life midway through the first quarter as they closed out the final five minutes on a 10-2 run, taking a 21-13 lead into the second.
The sophomore duo of Johnson and Francis combined for 13 of the Bonnies' 21 points in the first 10 minutes.
It was all Bonnies early in the second period, growing their lead to as many as 10, 28-18, with 8:00 minutes on the clock.
VCU grabbed the momentum, however, using an 11-0 run to take a 29-28 lead into halftime. The Rams did not allow a Bonaventure basket over the final 6:37 of the half.
Tera Reed paced the Rams with a game-high 22 points on the evening.

- The Bonnies finished the evening shooting 18-of-52 (34.6 percent) from the floor.
- The Rams doubled up the Bonnies on the offensive glass, 16-8.
- Olivia Brown grabbed a team-high seven rebounds for the Bonnies.
