PITTSBURGH – A number of impressive stat lines – including the first career double-double from Deja Francis and 20 points from Mckenna Maycock – were not enough for the St. Bonaventure women's basketball team in the regular season finale Saturday at Duquesne as the Dukes came away victorious, 80-64.
In the final regular season game of her freshman season, Francis had one of her better statistical performances. She finished with 12 points and a career-best 10 assists on the day. Maycock, meanwhile, was good on eight of 13 field goal attempts to finish with 20 points – her third game of 20 or more points this season and seventh of her career.
St. Bonaventure worked within 43-39 midway through the third quarter and had sights on getting within one possession when a Dajah Logan jumper rattled in and out.
The Dukes came away with the rebound, though, and momentum as well - Chassidy Omogrosso sank one of her six 3-pointers on the other end and soon the lead was back to 51-39.
From there, Duquesne remained in control.
Bona led in the early going thanks to hot starts from both Maycock and Bree Paulson.
Things were tied, 17-17, after 10 minutes, but Duquesne launched a 15-4 run to race ahead, 34-23, late in the second quarter. SBU would chip away in the last two minutes of the half, but the Dukes went to intermission with a 34-26 advantage.
Duquesne connected on 10 of its 19 field goal attempts in the third and eight of 13 tries in the fourth quarter to pull away during the second half.
Omogrosso, a senior guard, poured in a game-high 26 points to power the Dukes on Senior Day.
A first round Atlantic 10 Tournament game on Tuesday night awaits the Bonnies as they travel to Davidson. Tip is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
