ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – A disappointing offensive effort from the St. Bonaventure women's basketball team led to a La Salle victory Wednesday night in the Reilly Center, 52-45.

In a game where neither team ever truly clicked offensively, it was La Salle that made enough shots down the stretch to stand on top at the end of 40 minutes.

Freshman Asianae Johnson finished with her first career double-double, totaling 10 points and a career high 11 rebounds. Sophomore Emily Calabrese nearly missed a double-double of her own, chipping in with 10 points and nine rebounds.

But it wouldn't be enough.

La Salle went 19-for-71 from the floor against the Bonaventure defense, but just 16 shot attempts fell during the night for the Bonnies including a 4-for-15 stretch during the fourth quarter that proved the difference.

A two-point game after 30 minutes, the Bonnies went silent for the first seven minutes of the fourth.

Slow and steady won the race for the Explorers as, even without any type of real offensive outburst, La Salle slowly built a 43-33 advantage with 3:46 to play.

By the time the Bonnies finally saw the ball fall through the basket in the fourth quarter, on two free throws from Deja Francis with 2:55 remaining, La Salle had a stronghold it would not relinquish.

It was an icy start on both ends of the court – an omen for things to come.

La Salle hit just three of its 24 field goal attempts during the first quarter, but a 3-of-13 start from the Bonnies left the home team with just a 9-7 advantage.

The Explorers went to intermission ahead by three and the game remained within a five-point spread for nearly the entire third quarter. A pair of Mckenna Maycock free throws before the end of the third made it a 35-33 score heading for the final quarter.

Janay Sanders led all scorers with 13 points for La Salle while Jeryn Reese totaled 10 points and 16 rebounds for the Explorers which finished with 20 offensive rebounds as a team.

The Bonnies wrap up the regular season Saturday with a trip to Duquesne.
