BUFFALO – A dominating performance from host Buffalo sent the Bulls to a 90-43 victory over the St. Bonaventure women's basketball team Sunday afternoon at Alumni Arena.
The Bulls (8-3) started out rolling, opening the game on an 18-2 break over the first seven minutes of the game. From there the defending MAC champions, ranked No. 6 in the latest CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25, remained on the gas pedal. Cierra Dillard scored 20 of her game-high 26 points during the first half as the Bulls went to halftime ahead by a 47-17 margin.
Buffalo never relinquished control after intermission.
Buffalo shot 45 percent (30-for-67) for the game while limiting the Bonnies to 24 percent (13-for-55). The Bulls connected on 11 3-pointers on the day and were able to dominate by controlling inside as well with 34 points in the paint.
"We battled to within 12 at the end of the first quarter, but we didn't attack the paint enough. We need to find better ways to get the ball inside," St. Bonaventure head coach Jesse Fleming said. "I thought we have played pretty well through non-conference aside from the Bucknell game until today, but from the tip we didn't come to play today. We need to find a way to improve after the break."
Asianae Johnson contributed eight points as well for the Bonnies.
The Bonnies (3-9) return to action next Monday, Dec. 31 for another edition of holiday hoops when they travel to Cornell on New Year's Eve. The non-conference finale is set for a 1 p.m. tip off.
