A 5-11 native of Durham, North Carolina, Council averaged 25.1 points and 9.8 rebounds per game for Northern High School where she was named the 2016 Piedmont Athletic Conference Player of the Year. She also excelled in the classroom where she was an Honor Roll student. In 2014, she was one of 140 players nationwide selected to try out for a spot on the FIBA U17 World Championship team at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.
"We are thrilled to have Rhianna join our program," Fleming said. "She possesses tremendous versatility and can score the basketball. I think she will be a great fit on the court, in the classroom and in the community here at St. Bonaventure."
Council also was a high jumper and ran the 400 meters for her high school's track and field team and also ran cross country.
She becomes the second member of her family to play Division I basketball – her brother Ricky Council II plays at Providence.
The Bonnies open the 2016-17 campaign as part of an exhibition doubleheader with the men's team on Nov. 5 vs. Edinboro at the Reilly Center. The season officially kicks off Nov. 11 at Niagara.
