ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure University senior Katie Healy has earned a spot on the 2015-16 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Women's Basketball Team, officials announced Thursday.
The Academic All-District Teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. Healy is one of eight players selected to the NCAA Division I District 1 team which includes players from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.
A senior marketing major with a 3.46 cumulative GPA, Healy has put together one of the finest careers in St. Bonaventure history. The Lancaster, N.Y. native is one of just four Bonnies to reach 1,500 career points with over 700 rebounds as well. She currently ranks third all-time in Bonnies career rebounding with 785 and is tied for fifth in scoring with 1,578 points. Healy has also been accepted into the University's Master of Business Administration program and is concurrently finishing her undergrad degree.
A key reason the Bonnies have posted a 20-4 overall record and a 9-2 mark in Atlantic 10 play this season, Healy ranks sixth in the conference at 14.9 points per game, adding 7.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists. She also stands among the A-10 leaders in field goal percentage, shooting 51.0 percent from the floor.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month. The teams are voted on by sports information directors across the nation.
Joining Healy on the District 1 team are: Nicholle Aston, a junior from Cornell; Sigi Koizar, a junior from Maine; Kia Nurse, a sophomore from UConn; Nyasha Sarju, a senior from Yale; Brittany Snow, a senior from Stony Brook; Elizabeth Wood, a senior from Maine and Whitney Wyckoff, a senior from Yale. Healy is one of only two Atlantic 10 players named to Academic All-District teams, along with Jackie Kemph of Saint Louis, who was named to the All-District 6 team.
