ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team moved a step closer to the 2015-16 season on Sunday morning with the first official practice of the year at the Reilly Center.
The Bonnies bring back much in the way of experience as five players with 20 or more starts a year ago return this season. Two-time All-Atlantic 10 pick Katie Healy, a senior forward from Lancaster, highlights the returners for the Brown and White. Healy begins her senior season ranking 12th in Bonnies history in scoring (1,250 points), sixth for made free throws (341), seventh in rebounds (629) and ninth in field goal percentage (45.6 percent). Healy ranked ninth among all A-10 players in scoring last year.
Senior guard Nyla Rueter also returns after scoring 10.6 points per game last year, moving into ninth place in program history with 116 3-pointers. Mariah Ruff, Gabby Richmond and Emily Michael all also started 20 or more games a season ago. In all, nine players return from last year's roster.
The Bonnies have reached national postseason play in five of the past seven years under head coach Jim Crowley, the 2012 ESPN.com National Coach of the Year. St. Bonaventure, which went 15-15 a year ago, has also won 20 or more games five out of the last seven campaigns including a 147-82 overall record.
St. Bonaventure will see its first game action at the Reilly Center in an exhibition contest vs. Edinboro on Nov. 7. The regular season kicks off at home Nov. 13 vs. Siena in the Preseason WNIT first round. The Bonnies will enjoy 16 home games this season at the Reilly Center – a place where the Brown and White has registered an 86-27 record since the 2007-08 season.
