Student-Athlete Feature: Theresa Dristle

Student-Athlete Feature: Theresa Dristle

Though no events or games are taking place this fall on campus, St. Bonaventure student-athletes still have great stories to tell. During the fall semester, will feature members from each of our 17 Division I teams – how they're adjusting to the new norms of campus life, preparing for the upcoming seasons and more.

In this edition, we feature women's cross country junior Theresa Dristle.

Dristle joined the Bonnies as a freshman in 2018 with strong momentum, helping the team by finishing in the top three in her first three races. She carried the momentum over to her sophomore year, placing in the team's top seven in five races.

Prior to Bonaventure, Dristle was named Jordan Elbridge High's MVP in both cross country and indoor track as a senior. In the classroom, Dristle is a cybersecurity major.

What did you do over the spring/summer to stay in shape and get ready to get back to practices this fall (and was it difficult to find places to workout/practice because of quarantines)?
I ran over the Spring/Summer to stay in shape. I did a little bit of swimming as well. I used the roads to run. I did find it difficult that I couldn't use the Erie Canal or track for a change of surfaces.

What was one good thing that came out of the spring sports shutdown and odd summer for you? Did you develop any new hobbies/interests?
I did a lot of hiking. I also had a lot of free time to hang out with family, which was super nice.

What messages/advice have your coaches given you for staying positive during these tough times?
My coaches encouraged me to stay focused in school and stay in a routine. They also encouraged us to social distance and wear a mask to remain healthy.

Even though there are no competitions this fall, how excited are you to get back to workouts with your team? Do you look at practices and work with your teammates any differently since the COVID shutdown?
I don't look at practices any differently. I am so excited to be running with my teammates and at Bonaventure. I personally enjoy practicing with my team more than competitions. It should be a fun fall together.

What is your favorite class at Bonaventure and why (now or previously)?
I am currently taking Computer Networking this summer and it looks interesting. I am excited to learn about an aspect of computer science that doesn't involve coding.
