Young Bonnies Turn In Strong Effort With Second Place Finish at Little Three Championship

YOUNGSTOWN, N.Y. – Sophomore William Delaney led a crop of young Bonnies runners to a second place finish for the St. Bonaventure University men's cross country team in the Little Three Championship Saturday morning at Old Fort Niagara State Park.

In double dual scoring, St. Bonaventure defeated Niagara with 20 team points to Niagara's 35 while Canisius won with 15 team points to St. Bonaventure's 40.

Delaney clocked in with a 5K PR time of 16:21.54, besting his mark in last year's event by over seven seconds. He took home an 11th place overall finish in the field of 40 runners.

Freshman Mason Kimbell made his collegiate debut right on the heels of Delaney, taking home 13th at 16:34.20. Fellow freshman Jack Boltman also impressed in his first race with the Bonnies, coming across the finish line in 17th at a time of 16:44.54.

The Bonnies top five all ran in just over 30 seconds of one another and all under the 17-minute mark. Team captain Levi Malone was fourth on the squad at 16:49.55, just ahead of a third Bonnies freshman, Nathan Prisella who came in at 16:54.28.

Malone's time was a 5K PR, easily beating his best of 17:51 in the 2015 Little Three Championship.

Sophomore Donavan Lowe also had a personal best time of 17:06.51, just ahead of yet another Bonnies freshman in Ryan Chmiel (17:13.52).

Daniel Janak, Joseph Blakeley and Luke Gobel all debuted as well for the Bonnies while junior Christian Gravius also turned in a personal best 5K race time.

Next up for the Bonnies is a trip to South Bend, Ind., where the team will take part in the National Catholic Invitational hosted by the University of Notre Dame on Friday, Sept. 15.
