@BonniesXC To Compete at Paul Short Run

St. Bonaventure at Paul Short Invitational

The St. Bonaventure Men's and Women's Cross Country teams travel to Bethlehem, Pa. to compete in the prestigious Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University on Saturday.

The Bonnies men's and women's cross country teams have competed in three meets so far this season. The men most recently placed 10th at the Harley F. Anderson Invitational in Rochester, N.Y., while the women placed eighth. Freshman William Delaney ran 26:59.4 in the 7,800m race to lead the men's team, placing 36th overall while fellow freshman Devan Cavanaugh finished second for the Bonnies, running a 27:47.7. For the women, sophomore Emily Izydorczak ran a 19:12.7, leading the Bonnies and finishing 11th in the race, while freshman Stephanie Barry came in second for the team and 39th overall, running a 19:49.1.

Delaney, as a result of his successful start to the season, was named the Atlantic 10's Men's Cross Country Performer of the Week as well as receiving Rookie of the Week honors.

Now in its 43rd year, the Paul Short Invitational is one of the most prestigious and largest invitationals in the United States. This year, the meet will host approximately 6,000 athletes from nearly 450 colleges and high schools.

Schools participating in the meet include last year's men's champion Georgetown, Yale, Iona, Columbia, Utah State of Mountain West, last year's women's champion Guelph, Penn, Florida, and Georgia. Additionally, top Division II and III schools will be competing including Adams State and Williams College, respectively.

As mentioned, Georgetown finished first in the men's meet in 2015 while Guelph finished first in the women's meet. Villanova has won the men's meet a total of nine times, the most of any competing collegiate program and are tied with Georgetown and Penn State for the most meet victories for the women.

The meet will once again be hosted by Lehigh University.

Both the men's and women's cross country teams travel to Gettysburg, Pa. for the Gettysburg Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 15.
