ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A pair of freshmen led the way for the St. Bonaventure University men's cross country team at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational on Saturday morning as the Bonnies finished 10th out of 22 teams competing.
William Delaney again was the leading runner for the Bonnies, finishing 36th out of 213 competitors on the day with his 8K time of 26:59.4.
Another first-year runner, Devan Cavanaugh placed second on the team as the Coudersport, Pa. native clocked in at 27:47.7 to come home 57th on the overall leaderboard.
Senior Ben Collins placed third on the squad with his time of 28:02.6 while junior Matthew Bacher followed at 28:22.8 and another freshman, Kyle Haller rounded out the Bonnies' top five with his time of 28:50.3.
The race for the fifth spot on the team was a tight one as sophomores Caleb Johnson (28:54.4) and Drew Bille (28:55.5) along with junior Levi Malone (28:57.0) all were closely bunched in the field right behind Haller.
Oswego won the event with a score of 84 with Rochester (86), host Roberts Wesleyan (92), Franklin Pierce (104) and Fredonia (120) rounding out the top five. The Bonnies finished with 271 total points.
St. Bonaventure returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa.
