BUFFALO, N.Y. – Junior Nicholas Masiello finished in 14th place overall at Saturday's Canisius Alumni Classic at Delaware Park, leading the St. Bonaventure men's cross country team to a third-place finish.
Canisius College won the invitational with 16 points, placing five runners in the top six overall. Niagara University finished in second place with 48 points and St. Bonaventure finished in third place with 78 points. Canisius sophomore Cooper Roach won the individual title with a time of 26:10.1.
Masiello led the Brown and White with a time of 27:23.8, scoring 12 points for the Bonnies. Sophomore Joe Ferencik finished in 17th place overall, crossing the line at 27:36.6.
Junior Harley Thompson was the third Bona's runner, finishing in 21st place overall with a time of 28:02.0. Sophomore Kevin Sidoran followed in 22nd place, finishing 7.3 seconds behind Thompson. Sophomores Nick Konotopskyj (28:34.9) and Caleb Lecker (28:37.2) finished together in 26th and 27th places.
Junior Steven Kibbe was the seventh placing runner for the Bonnies, finishing in 30th place with a time of 28:47.2. Senior Chris Spiker finished in 33rd place, clocking in at 29:08.2. Juniors Matt Trifoso (29:22.3) and Dan Myers (29:24.6) rounded out the Bonaventure top 10 in 35th and 36th places.
Senior captain Terence Petty finished in 37th place with a time of 29:50.7. Junior Nick Taylor crossed the line in 39th place with a time of 31:03.1. Senior Peter Eller finished his final race in his Bonaventure career in 43rd place, posting a time of 33:39.0.
The Bonnies will have a week off before traveling to Mechanicsville, Va., for the 2013 Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships on Nov. 2, hosted by the University of Richmond. The men's race will start at 10 a.m.
