NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The St. Bonaventure men's cross country team will compete Friday at 5 p.m. at the National Catholic Championships at the University of Notre Dame.
The Bonnies finished in 27th out of 34 scoring teams at last year's race, scoring 774 points. Junior Nick Masiello led the Brown and White, finishing in 116th place with a time of 26:53. The host Fighting Irish won the race with 31 points and Notre Dame graduate student Jeremy Rae won the individual title with a time of 24:16.
Bona's will race against nationally known teams like the Fighting Irish, the College of the Holy Cross, DePaul University, Marquette University and Xavier University. They will also face three opponents they faced at this season's first two races: Canisius College, Franciscan University and Seton Hill University.
The men's championship race will start at 5 p.m and the JV race will start at 3:30 p.m. Senior Chris Spiker; juniors Steven Kibbe, Nick Masiello and Harley Thompson; sophomores Joe Ferencik, Nick Konotopskyj, Caleb Lecker; and freshman Ben Collins will comprise the Bonnies' nine-man squad in the championship race.
Bonaventure will strive to improve after winning their first invitational in over ten years at the Seton Hill Griffin Classic on Sept. 7 in Greensburg, Pa. Junior Harley Thompson led SBU on the hilly Seton Hill course with a fourth-place finish overall, clocking in at 29:36.6.
After Notre Dame, the Bonnies will travel to Bethlehem, Pa., for the Paul Short Invitational on Oct. 5 at 12:15 p.m.
