LEESBURG,Va-Both cross country teams finished last at the Mason Invitational friday as the men's team suffered a key injury. Sophomore Nick Masiello, the men's top finisher in each of the first two races, injured his leg during the race and was unable to finish. The severity of his injury will be evaluated over the weekend.
Reigning Atlantic-10 Champion La Salle won both the men's and women's races by a sizable margin while host George Mason finished second on both sides.
In Masiello's absence sophomore Harley Thompson was the first men's finisher for the Bonnies with a time of 27:49. He was closely followed by freshmen Joe Ferencik, Caleb Lecker and Kevin Sidoran who finished in 28:10, 28:49 and 28:50 respectively. Sophomore Steven Kibbe was next through for the Brown and White at 29:05 followed by freshman Nick Konotopskyj at 29:35.
The women's team also finished seventh of seven (Howard University didn't have enough finishers to score). Freshman Kerry Caher was the first finisher for the Bonnies for the second straight meet with a time of 24:17. Junior Kady Weisner was next for the Bonnies with a time of 24:23 while sophomore captain Hannah Robinson finished third for the team with a time 24:47. Freshman Aubrie wasn't far behind with a time of 24:45. Sophomore Elizabeth Dickinson rounded out the scoring while finishing in 26:59. Sophomore Emily Steves was held out the race with an injury.
Next up for the Bonnies is a trip to the Gettysburg Invitational Oct. 13.
