South Bend, Ind.- St. Bonaventure cross country rewrote their record book at the National Catholic Championships as four runners on the women's team cracked the top seven 5k times in history and one runner on the men's team moved into the top ten times for 8k's.
The men's team finished 27th of 36 teams while the women's team came in 14th of 34 teams at the Invitational, held at Notre Dame. Both teams showed major improvement from their last place finishes in 2009. Notre Dame won both the men's and women's races by wide margins.
On the women's side, freshman Kerry Caher paced the Bonnies as she finished first overall on the team and 68th overall with a 5K time of 19:11.6, good enough for the second best time in St. Bonaventure women's history. Junior transfer Kady Weisner checked in second just five ticks behind Caher at 19:16.7, which moved her from sixth to third on the all time list. Sophomore Hannah Robinson also finished inside the top-100 with a time of 19:34; only seven seconds off of the fifth best time in St. Bonaventure history which she owns. Freshman Aubrie Russell was just outside the top-100 as she crossed the finish line in 19:37.3 and took over the seventh spot in St. Bonaventure women's history.
