AMHERST, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure men's track team started its spring season Wednesday afternoon by making a dent on the program record books at the UB Mid-Week Invite.

Sophomore Darion Gregory set a new program record in the 3000 meters, running a time of 9:14.37. Senior Nathan Prisella goes to second in the program records in the event (9:34.31) while Hayden Barry (9:35.57) now stands third.

Freshman Zane Courtwright made an impressive debut, putting himself second in the Bona record books in both the 800 meters (2:01.58) and 1500 meters (4.11.54). In the 800, he finished fifth in Wednesday's event out of 23 competitors.

Fellow freshman Kieran Ryan also had a strong day, running a time of 2:04.09 in the 800, good for seventh overall on the day and seventh in program history, and also slotted into sixth in Bona history for the 1500 with a mark of 4:17.87.

Another freshman, James Sullivan now ranks fourth in the 1500 for the Bona records after crossing the finish line with a time of 4:12.27.

"After 13 months of no competition and limited practices, our runners were a little fearful of their ability to perform well, but as the meet progressed that fear was replaced by excitement and a simple desire to run with their heart and what they could accomplish on any given day," head coach Bob MacFarlane said. "We are very happy with the results of today's meet and now we are going back to practice with a renewed energy of performing at a higher level at the next meet."

The Bonnies return to action April 10, again at UB.
