HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Members of the St. Bonaventure track teams made history Friday afternoon and evening by competing in the Bonnies' first-ever official indoor meet at the Houghton College Highlander Invitational inside Kerr-Pegula Fieldhouse.
The Bonnies track program returned in 2017 and has exclusively been an outdoor program prior to Friday when St. Bonaventure ran its first of three indoor events this semester.
Freshman Darion Gregory impressed in the mile, taking 10th place out of 30 competitors (4:43.54). Gregory won his heat race, jumping from third to first with a 31.90 in the final lap.
In the 800, Ryan Chmiel showed the way for a host of Bonnies by taking eighth out of 25 runners with his effort of 2:11.03. Christian Riethmiller turned in the 10th-place time at 2:11.29 after leading his heat race, just ahead of Justin Drennan who placed 12th overall at 2:12.70.
Jacob Osswald also finished second in the 5,000 with a run of 16:27.91.
