The St. Bonaventure University men's tennis team is set for a pair of matches this Friday and Saturday. The Bonnies will first travel to Ohio to take on Youngstown State Friday, Feb. 26 beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Brown and White then return home to host Mercyhurst Saturday with that match also scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bonnies traveled north to Buffalo to take on the Bulls last Saturday afternoon. Buffalo, however, was able to defeat the Bonnies, 7-0, after sweeping all six singles matches.
ABOUT YOUNGSTOWN STATE
The Penguins are currently 2-4 overall early in the season. Youngstown State started the year 0-4, falling to Northern Illinois, North Dakota, Dayton and Marquette. YSU has since won its last two matches, 6-1, over Toledo and, 5-2, against Xavier. Laurentiu Mandocescu and Vasilis Vardakis lead the Penguins with four singles wins each.
Saturday will be the first competition of the 2020-21 for the Lakers. Last season, Mercyhurst was 4-4 before spring sports were cancelled due to the pandemic. The Lakers return eight players from last year's roster and welcome Avik Agrawal to the team this season.
The Bonnies are back in action Saturday, March 6 on the road at Little Three rival Niagara. That match is scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m.
