The St. Bonaventure University men's swimming and diving team hosts Binghamton Monday, Jan. 20 at the Reilly Center Pool for Senior Day. Diving will kick off the meet at 11:00 a.m. and swimming begins at 2:00 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The diving squad last competed at the UB Diving Invite on Jan. 10-12. Freshman Austin Campbell led the Brown and White with a victory in the 1-meter dive on the first day of action, posting a total score of 245.75. Matthew Bielobradek grabbed a second-place finish behind his teammate with 235.8 points. On day two, junior Michael Bruno earned third place in the 3-meter dive with a score of 297.
For the swim team, it's been over a month since they last officially competed at the Zippy Invite on Dec. 6-8. where they finished fifth in the team standings. Sophomore Alec Thomas led teammates William Lowe, Nick Burdo, and David Shakhnazarov to a fifth-place finish in the 200-freestyle relay, posting a time of 1:23.58. In the 400-freestyle relay, Jake Ruffolo led teammates Burdo, Lowe, and Shakhnazarov to seventh place with a time of 3:04.70.
Prior to the start of Monday's meet against Binghamton, the Bonnies will honor seniors Guido Balderrama, Nick Burdo, Hylton Collinson, Seth Erdley, Joseph Malafronte, and David Shakhnazarov for their dedication to the St. Bonaventure swimming program over the past four years.
Guido is a four-year member of the swimming program. He has competed at the Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships three times in his career. As a freshman, he swam the 100-butterfly and 100-backstroke events while finishing 10th in the 200-butterfly. As a sophomore, Guido swam in the consolation final of the 100-butterfly and 200-butterfly at the 2018 A-10 Championships. In his junior year, he earned a 10th-place finish in the 100-butterfly and 15th-place in the 200-butterfly. Guido is a three-time selection to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Nick is a four-year member of the swimming program. He has competed at the Atlantic 10 Championships three times in his career, earning a seventh-place finish in the 200-freestyle and 10th in the 100-freestyle as a freshman. Nick also placed fifth in the 200-freestyle and swam in the 100-freestyle consolation finals at the 2018 Atlantic 10 Championships his sophomore season. As a junior, he earned a sixth-place finish in the 100-freestyle and eighth in the 200-freestyle. Nick is a three-time member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Hylton is a two-year member of the swimming program. As a junior, he won a silver medal in the 200-breaststroke, a bronze medal in the 400-IM, and was a member of the fourth-place 400-medley relay team at the 2019 Atlantic 10 Championships. Hylton also set a meet record in the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:08.92 at the Justin Jennings Memorial Invite. This season, he leads the team with seven individual victories thus far.
Seth is a four-year member of the swimming program. As a freshman, he swam in the 200-freestyle and the 100 and 200-backstroke events at the Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships. This season, he earned a sixth-place finish in the 50 and 100-backstroke at Penn State, along with sixth place in the 50-freestyle against Canisius. Seth is a three-time selection to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Joe is a four-year member of the swimming program. As a freshman, he placed third in the 200-IM against Canisius and finished fifth in 200-yard butterfly in a win over Colgate. During his sophomore season, Joe finished second in the 100-breaststroke and the 100-butterfly against Canisius and finished first in the 100-butterfly against Binghamton. As a junior, he was part of the sixth-place 200-medley relay team at the 2019 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships. This season, he was part of the first-place 100-freestyle relay team against Penn State and led the 400-freestyle relay team to first place at Colgate. Joe has been named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll in each of his first three seasons.
David is a four-year member of the swimming program. As a freshman, he helped the 200-medley relay team to a second-place finish, the 800-freestyle relay team to a third-place finish and the 200 and 400-freestyle relay teams to fourth-place finishes at the Atlantic 10 Championships. In his sophomore season, David grabbed a silver medal in the 200-freestyle relay, earned a sixth-place finish in the 200-freestyle, and swam in the consolation finals of the 100-freestyle at the 2018 A-10 Championships. Last season as a junior, he placed fifth in the 50-freestyle while also helping the 200-freestyle relay, 400-freestyle relay and 800-freestyle relay teams to sixth-place finishes at the 2019 A-10 Championships. He is a three-time selection to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
The Bearcats come into Monday with an overall record of 2-4 following a loss to Marist College on Jan. 10. Led by six seniors, their two victories came against Niagara (242-52) and Canisius (167-131). It will be their last meet before the America East Conference Championships. Last season, the Bonnies narrowly fell to Binghamton, 155-145, led by Maciej Danilewski's three wins.
The Bonnies will have one final tune-up against Niagara on Jan. 31 before heading to the Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships in Geneva, Ohio. Diving is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. while the swimming portion is slated for 1:30 p.m.
