Men's Swimming Heads to Akron for Zippy Invite

The St. Bonaventure University men's swimming and diving team travels to Akron, Ohio for the annual Zippy Invite hosted by Akron University. Action begins Friday, Dec. 6 with preliminary races starting at 9:00 a.m. The same schedule will remain for Saturday, Dec. 7 with the final day of the invite on Sunday, Dec. 8.

The Bonnies last swam against Canisius on Nov. 15. Bona was victorious, 150-87, winning seven events along the way. Winning for the Bonnies were David Shakhnazarov, Tjaard Krusch, Matthew Bielobradek and Nick Burdo. Shakhnazarov paced the Bonnies in the 50-freestyle, taking first with a time of 21.18. Tjaard Krusch was the next to win for the Brown and White, earning first place in the 200-IM, clocking in at 1:55.76. Burdo captured first place in the 100-freestyle (47.14) while Krusch doubled up, winning the 100-backstroke, turning in a time of 50.81. The Bonnies concluded Friday's dual meet by winning the 400-freestyle relay. The quartet of Krusch, Burdo, Jake Ruffolo and Marcus Swartfager finished in 3:09.67 to win the event. On the diving boards, Bielobradek grabbed first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives, earning 262.65 points and 279 points, respectively. Michael Bruno and Austin Campbell took second and third in both events. Bruno earned 253.5 points in the 1-meter dive and 276.525 points in the 3-meter dive, while Campbell registered 250.425 points in the 1-meter dive and 265.2 points in the 3-meter dive.

The Bonnies dive team competed at the WVU Diving Invitational on Nov. 22-23. The event featured diving teams from the U.S. Naval Academy, West Virginia University, Kenyon College, and Villanova University. In the first day of action, junior Michael Bruno finished in sixth place in the 1-meter dive, posting a total score of 262.65. Bruno was followed by teammates Austin Campbell in ninth place (248.15) and Matthew Bielobradek in the 11th spot (240.55). On the closing day of the contest, the trio of divers competed in the 3-meter dive preliminaries. Bruno took 11th place with a score of 265.40, followed by Campbell in 12th place (265.15) and Bielobradek in 13th (253.05).

The Bonnies men's swimming at diving team will take a break for the holidays until Friday, Jan. 10 when the diving team travels to the UB Diving Invite. Both teams return home Monday, Jan. 20 when the Bonnies host Binghamton at the Reilly Center Pool.
