ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University men's swimming and diving team opened up the 2019 portion of its schedule by hosting Cornell Monday afternoon at the Reilly Center Pool. The visiting Big Red won the dual meet, 148-93.
The Bonnies started the day with a second and third place finish in the 400-medley relay. The team of Maciej Danilewski, Hylton Collinson, Guido Balderrama and David Shakhnazarov posted a time of 3:26.34, a mere .2 seconds behind the winning time. Finishing in third was the quartet of Tjaard Krusch, Jason Green, Chauncey Nicholas and John Pietrucha with a time of 3:30.64.
Danilewski grabbed the Bonnies first win over Cornell in the 100-backstroke. His time of 50.76 was nearly two seconds faster than first place.
The Bonnies earned back-to-back second place finishes in the 50-freestyle and the 400-IM. Shakhnzarazov touched the wall in 21.22 for second and Collinson grabbed second in the 400-IM, clocking in at 4:10.68.
In the 200-freestyle relay to close out the day, the Bonnies grabbed the top two spots. The team of Joseph Malafronte, Marcus Swartfager, Nicholas and Shakhnazarov won the event, finishing at 1:26.31. Coming home in second place with a time of 1:28.57 was the team of Jake Ruffolo, Alec Thomas, Balderrama and Pietrucha.
The Bonnies are back in action Saturday, Jan. 26 on the road at Binghamton. Action is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
