Bonnies Victorious in First Meet of Season Thanks To Record-Setting Final Day

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Three meet records highlighted a season-opening victory as the St. Bonaventure men's swimming and diving team opened the year in winning style at the Justin Jennings Memorial Invite at Colgate.

St. Bonaventure won the event with a team score of 1268, ahead of UMass which was second at 1020.5, Colgate (578.5) and LeMoyne (246).

The victory gives new head coach Skip Nitardy a winning start to his tenure on the pool deck.

Meet records fell at the hands of the Bonnies in the 400-IM, 200-backstroke and 200-breaststroke.

Ethan Carr had the first meet record, touching the wall in a time of 4:10.49 for the victory in the 400-IM. He was just ahead of teammate Maciej Danielewski, who also broke the old meet record with his effort of 4:11.88.

Tjaard Krusch set another record with his time of 1:53.41 in the 200-backstroke, again just ahead of Danilewski (1:54.80). Krusch had a huge day as he also won the 100-backstroke by over a second with his time of 50.66 and he also helped his 200-medley relay team to a second-place effort of 1:36.44.

In the 200-breaststroke, newcomer Hylton Collinson took his first win as a Bonnie with another meet record of 2:08.92.

Guildo Balderrama also broke the previous meet record by finishing the 200-butterfly in 1:55.01, but finished second after coming home just shy of the new meet record time set by event winner Colton Hall of Colgate who won in 1:53.37.

John Pietrucha gave the Bonnies another win in the 200-freestyle with a finish of 1:45.44, just ahead of teammates Nick Burdo (1:46.82), Carr (1:47.02) and Jake Ruffolo (1:47.03) as the Brown and White took the first four spots.

The 400-freestyle relay team of Burdo, Krusch, Robert Marshall and Jason Green was also victorious at 3:10.75.

On the diving side of things, freshman Matthew Bielobradek finished second in the 1-meter dive with a total of 254.60.

The Bonnies return to action in their home debut Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Reilly Center Pool.
