White's School Record Highlights Day Two of A-10 Championships for the #Bonnies

GENEVA, Ohio – The St. Bonaventure University men's swimming and diving team finished day two of the Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships with 152 points for fifth place, highlighted by Michael White's first-place finish in the 200-IM.

White broke the St. Bonaventure record in the 200-IM finals with an NCAA B Time Standard of 1:47.30. White entered the A-10 Championships with conference's top 200-IM time at 1:49.02 set at the mid-season meet at Akron on Dec. 2-4. The win earned St. Bonaventure 20 points.

Preston Schilling (1:50.52 ) and Matt Goettler (1:51.84 ) competed in the 200-IM consolation finals.

Success on the diving board helped the Bonnies keep pace as Austin Childs finished in fifth place with a score of 263.55 in the 1-meter dive. Ryan McLaughlin competed in the consolation finals, finishing 13th overall with a score of 224.15.

The first Bonnie to score on the day was Ben Galinski, who qualified for the consolation finals in the 500-freestyle with a personal-best time of 4:34.72 in the prelims. He later swam a 4:35.00 for 14th place.

Three Bona sprinters also scored for the Bonnies, as Jordan Powers (20.88), Matt Taccard (21.04) and Robert Marshall (21.08) grabbed spots in the 50-free consolation finals.

The Brown and White rounded out the day's action by finishing fourth in the 200-freestyle relay as the team of Marshall, David Shakhnazarov, Powers and Taccard timed in at 1:21.27.

"Tonight showed that it is a different show this year with a lot parity in the conference," head coach Sean McNamee said. "We need to answer the bell tomorrow morning with some fight and grit."

Friday's action will include prelims and finals for the 400-IM, 100-butterfly, 200-freestyle, 100-breaststroke and 100-backstroke, along with the 400-medley relay. Prelims begin at 10:00 a.m. with finals starting at 6:30 p.m.
