AKRON, Ohio -- The St. Bonaventure University men's swimming and diving team will participate in the Akron Zippy Invite this weekend.
The three-day dual meet will have action Friday, Saturday and Sunday with prelims starting at 9:00 a.m. each day and finals at 6:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 4:00 p.m. Sunday. The dual meet will total 40 events and the top three teams will earn team awards after the conclusion of action Sunday evening.
The Bonnies swam in the invite last year, finishing third behind Oakland University and Bloomsburg University with 1,085 points.
St. Bonaventure's Viach Shchukin still holds the Zippy Invite record in the 100-freestyle as he swam a 43.66 in 2013.
They last swam on Nov. 13 against Canisius, picking up the win over the Griffs, 167-131. For his performance in the win, senior Michael White was named the Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week as he picked up first-place finishes 200-butterfly (1:54.45) -- in which the team took the top three spots -- 100-butterfly (51.14) and 200-IM (1:54.24). The team also picked up a first-place finish in the 400-medley relay (3:32.15) while junior Matt Taccard won the 100-backstroke (52.71).
St. Bonaventure also got wins from senior Preston Schilling in the 100-breaststroke (59.20) and 200-breaststroke (2:11.52), as well as freshman Nick Burdo in the 100-freestyle (48.17) and junior Ben Galinski in the 500-freestyle (4:49.24). Freshman Austin Childs finished second in one-meter diving and third in three-meter diving.
The invite will be the Bonnies final meet of the fall, as they will return to the pool on Jan. 14 when they travel to Binghamton.
