BUFFALO, N.Y.- Junior divers Mike Murphy and Dominic Butts-Ealy compete this weekend at the University at Buffalo's Natatorium in Buffalo, N.Y., in one of five regional NCAA Zone Diving Meets for a chance to advance to the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships March 22-24 in Federal Way, Washington.
Murphy is coming off a tremendous regular season and A-10 Championships. During the regular season, Murphy won 12 events. At A-10's Murphy won gold in bother 1-meter and 3-meter event and walked away with the coveted Men's Diver of the Year Honor. Murphy was also named the A-10 Performer of the Week for the final week of the regular season.
Butt-Ealy is coming off a solid performance at A-10's. He earned a fifth-place finish on the 1-meter and an eighth-place finish on the 3-meter board.
In order to qualify for Zone A's, Murphy and Butts-Ealy had to earn a combined score of at least 300 for the 1-meter event and 320 points for the 3-meter at either a major duel or tri-meet this season.
Any Division 1 university with qualifying divers at schools in Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia will be eligible to compete.
After the preliminary rounds on Friday and Saturday morning, the top 18 divers advance to the finals, which will be Friday and Saturday afternoon.
