CLEVELAND, Ohio – The St. Bonaventure men's swimming and diving team travels to Cleveland State this Saturday for a tri-meet against the host Vikings and Valparaiso.
The Bonnies hope to avenge last year's 136-105 defeat at the hands of the Vikings.
Last season, Yi Liu picked up a first-place finish in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:57.53 and Mike Dansa (1:45.40) took second place in the 200-yard freestyle.
In diving, Mike Murphy finished second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives, while Dominic Butts-Ealy finished third in the 1-meter and 3-meter. Murphy earned a score of 278.17, while Butts-Ealy finished with a 253.35 total.
Cleveland State fell to Ohio State, Virginia Tech and Denison in the Ohio State Quad Meet in its last competition. Meanwhile, in its last meet, Valparaiso fell to Notre Dame.
The Brown and White are coming off a solid performance against Atlantic 10 foe La Salle last weekend. In the meet, the Bonnies took first in 13 out of 18 events to cruise to a 209-125 victory.
Junior Elias Homerin led the way for the Bonnies by taking first in three events: the 1650-yard freestyle (16:30.86), the 500-yard freestyle (4:42.82) and the 200-yard butterfly (1:55.04). Those victories also earned Homerin the A-10 Performer of the Week honor Monday.
Stephen Melchiorre (1:55.38), Peter Koenig (1:55.50) and John McMahon (1:57.60) finished 1-2-3 in the 200-yard backstroke. In the 200-yard IM, Ripley Danner (1:55.85), Liu (1:59.81) and Melchiorre (2:00.73) took the top three spots.
In diving, Murphy finished first in the 3-meter dive with a score of 323.4 and Butts-Ealy finished in second place with a score on 278.85. In the 1-meter event, Murphy (307.12) and Butts-Ealy (300.97) finished in first and second places, respectively. With their scores for the events, both divers qualified for the Zone Diving Championships.
The Bonnies next meet will take place Friday, November 18 when they travel to Michigan St. to take on the Spartans.
