Murphy, Butts-Ealy Complete NCAA Zone Dives

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – St. Bonaventure divers Mike Murphy and Dominic Butts-Ealy wrapped up their successful 2010-11 campaigns this past weekend at the NCAA Zone A Championships held at Lejeune Hall at the United States Naval Academy.

Sophomore Murphy and freshman Butts-Ealy started the championships off with respective 27th- and 43rd-place showings in the 1-meter dive on Friday. Murphy scored a 244.70 on his six attempts, while Butts-Ealy tallied a score of 200.65.

On Saturday, both individuals improved on their scores from Friday as Murphy finished 21st in the 3-meter and Butts-Ealy garnered 31st place. Once again both attempted six dives, and Murphy recorded a score of 278.95, while Butts-Ealy received a 237.25 total.

Neither finished in the top 18 of the field of 46 for the 1-meter and 43 for the 3-meter, thus did not qualifying for the championships on Sunday.

Virginia Tech swept both events on the weekend, as Ryan Hawkins won the 1-meter competition with a score of 657.85 (combined 12 preliminary and championship dives) and Logan Shinholser came away victorious in the 3-meter with a 790.05 total.
