Murphy, Butts-Ealy Head To Zone Diving Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – St. Bonaventure divers Mike Murphy and Dominic Butts-Ealy will compete this weekend at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships. The meet will be held at Lejeune Hall at the United States Naval Academy starting Friday and continuing through Sunday. Qualifying individuals will advance to the next stage of Zone Championships.

Sophomore Murphy and freshman Butts-Ealy came up big for the Bonnies many times throughout the season. Murphy scored a 340.28 in the 3-meter competition against Penn State in late January, setting a program record. Murphy also took first place in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives against Canisius, scoring 282.90 and 294.60, respectively, breaking the pool record in the 3-meter event.

Butts-Ealy picked up first-place finishes in the 1-meter events against Pittsburgh and Niagara, and first-place finishes in the 3-meter against La Salle and Canisius.

Murphy finished fifth at the A-10 Championships in the 3-meter with 282.80 points while Butts-Ealy finished 11th overall with 232.15 points. In the 1-meter, Murphy finished first with 300.6 and Butts-Ealy finished third with 297.10.

Murphy and Butts-Ealy will both be competing in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives at Zones. The 1-meter preliminary and quarterfinal rounds will take place on Friday following the women's 3-meter event starting at 1:00 p.m. Each diver on the men's side will be allowed six dives each round. The finals of the 1-meter will be later that night following the women's 3-meter finals. The men's 3-meter preliminary and quarterfinal rounds will take place on Saturday following the women's 1-meter starting at Noon. The finals will once again be later on Saturday following the women.
