Men's Swimming & Diving Downs Binghamton

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y.  – The men's swimming and diving team defeated Binghamton University this afternoon at the Reilly Center Pool. Despite a month off from competition, the men were still able to defeat the Bearcats, 188-112.

In diving action, sophomore Mike Murphy, senior Trevor Herzog and freshman Dominic Butts-Ealy swept the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Murphy scored 298.67 points in the 1-meter and 298.05 points in the 3-meter, good for first place in both. Herzog placed second in both events, earning 247.20 points and 274.95 points, respectively. Butts-Ealy rounded out the top three with 230.02 points in the 1-meter and 265.12 points in the 3-meter. 

Senior Kevin Murphy continued the Brown and White's success, placing first in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke events. Murphy swam times of 59.16 and 2:13.08, respectively.  Junior Mike Dansa took second in the 200 breast, posting a time of 2:14.80.

Senior Dawid Kundzik also earned two first-place finishes, swimming a time of 21.28 in the 50-yard freestyle and 51.30 in the 100-yard butterfly.

In the 200-yard butterfly, junior Yi Liu grabbed another first place for the Bonnies, touching in at 1:55.13 ahead of teammate Elias Homerin (1:57.32).   

The freshmen helped out the team with James Martin and Stephen Melchiorre earning first-place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke, respectively. Martin touched in at 47.76 while Melchiorre recorded a time of 1:56.05.

Martin picked up a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, swimming a 1:44.96, while Dansa earned third place with a 1:47.60.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Homerin grabbed a second-place finish for the Brown and White with a 9:48.64. Junior Peter Koenig swam a 54.49 in the 100-yard backstroke, also earning second place.

In relay action, the 200-yard medley relay team of Kevin Murphy, Koenig, Kundzik and senior Chris Baker earned first place with a combined time of 1:35.58.

The Bonnies will have a quick turnaround as they will take to the pool tomorrow, Saturday, at Penn State for a 12 p.m. start.
