Bonnies Open 2010-11 Home Campaign Looking For Revenge

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure men's swimming and diving team opens up its 2010-11 home campaign at the Reilly Center Pool this Saturday against Cleveland State.

Last season against the Vikings, the Bonnies fell, 153-82. In that meet, then-junior Dawid Kundzik secured a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 46.96. Kundzik also took second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.27.  

The Bonnies are coming off a split in a tri-meet against Canisius and La Salle last Saturday. They toppled Canisius, 261-73, but lost to La Salle in a close contest, 168.5-165.5.

In that meet, sophomore Ethan Rowan gave another powerhouse performance for the Brown and White, earning three individual firsts and sweeping the freestyle events. In the 1,650-yard freestyle he swam a 16:13.71. In the 200-yard freestyle, Rowan touched in at 1:44.10 and then grabbed his third first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, swimming a 4:40.26.

In diving, sophomore Mike Murphy and freshman Dominic Butts-Ealy teamed up for the second meet in a row to clinch first-place finishes in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. Murphy took the win in the 1-meter, earning 280.20 points, while Butts-Ealy dominated the 3-meter event with 286.25 points.

This is the first of just three home meets for the teams this season. Diving will begin the meet on Saturday at 1 p.m.
