ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - St. Bonaventure junior Andy Garcia has been named to the 2004 National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Scholar All-America team.
Garcia, a midfielder and a modern languages major from Mississaugua, Ontario, was a second team choice. He is one of 36 student-athletes named to the NSCAA team, which includes players from all NCAA divisions.
"It's a tremendous accomplishment and could not be more well deserved because of the long hours Andy puts into his studies and into soccer," said Bonnies coach Bill Brady. "It's always been very important to him and to his family, and I couldn't be happier for him. It re-emphasizes why Andy is symbolic of the student-athletes we want in our program."
Garcia led the Bonnies in scoring with four goals and 10 assists for 18 points over 17 games. He led the Atlantic 10 in assists and ranked seventh in points.
Earlier, Garcia was named to the NSCAA's All-Region team and to the Atlantic 10's All-Conference first team.
St. Bonaventure posted a record of 8-9-1 overall, an improvement of six wins over the 2003 season, and finished eighth in the Atlantic 10 at 4-7.
