ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. -- A trio of St. Bonaventure players have been named to the 2004 Atlantic 10 men's soccer All-Conference team, the conference announced today.
Junior midfielder Andy Garcia was named to the first team, sophomore forward Kevin Omokhua was a second team choice and freshman forward Jon Lopez was named to the All-Rookie team. It is just the second time in school history that three Bonnies players were named all-conference in men's soccer in the same season.
St. Bonaventure posted a record of 8-9-1 overall, an improvement of six wins over the 2003 season, and finished eighth in the Atlantic 10 at 4-7. Garcia, who is only the third St. Bonaventure player to earn first team All-Conference honors, led the Bonnies in scoring with four goals and 10 assists for 18 points over 17 games. He leads the Atlantic 10 in assists and ranks seventh in points. The recognition caps a superb comeback year for Garcia, who missed all but four games of the 2003 season due to a broken foot.
Omokua earned the first Conference honors of his young career after he scored tied for the team lead with five goals. The Canadian added one assist for a total of 11 points over 18 games.
Lopez, who was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week twice during the season, scoring four goals with one assist for nine points over 13 games. All four of his goals came in Atlantic 10 games.
"Andy, Kevin and Jon are certainly deserving of these awards and we are very proud of them," said Bonnies coach Bill Brady. "The best part of it is all three will be back next year. They are and will be a big part of our continued improvements as a program."
