Lopez leads Bonnies over Hawks

PHILADELPIA, Pa. - Rookie Jon Lopez netted two goals to lead St. Bonaventure to a 3-0 victory at Saint Joseph's Friday night.

Lopez got the Bonnies on the board in the 14th minute, blasting his first goal past Saint Joseph's keeper Chris Distefano. Lopez netted his second goal just five minutes later. Junior midfielder Andy Garcia earned assists on both plays, totaling nine assists on the year. Garcia then scored the final goal of the game in the 35th minute on a corner kick. Garcia now totals 18 points on the season.

Bona senior keeper Sean Eyde started the game and recorded two saves. The Bonnies' reserve keepers, freshmen Jonathan Blanchard and Ken Lish, both saw action in the net. Lish recorded two saves.

Distefano finished the game with four saves for the Hawks.

"It was an extremely physical second half," said Bona head coach Bill Brady. "I was proud that everybody kept their heads, and because of that we walked away with the shutout."

The win improved the Bonnies to 7-6-1 on the season and 3-4 in Atlantic 10 Conference action. Saint Joseph's dropped to 3-10-1 overall and 2-4-1 in conference play.

The Bonnies continue their road trip with a match-up at Temple on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 1 p.m.
