CORVALLIS, Ore. - St. Bonaventure fell to Gonzaga, 3-1, Sunday afternoon, dropping its second consecutive game in the final day of action at the Diadora Classic hosted by Oregon State.
Gonzaga held the Bonnies scoreless throughout the first period, while netting two goals to enter the half leading 2-0. In the second period, junior midfielder Konrad Paszkowski scored the Bonnies' lone goal of the game. Classmate Andy Garcia crossed the ball from the right side to Paszkowski, whose header beat Gonzaga keeper Sean Sosnovec.
Gonzaga scored again in the 89th minute to seal the victory. The Bulldogs outshot the Bonnies 18-8 on the day. Garcia and junior defender Steve Roach each recorded two shots on the day.
Bona keeper Sean Eyde tallied six saves in 90 minutes of play.
The Bonnies, who were ranked 25th by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas coming into the weekend tournament, dropped to 4-2-1 on the year. Gonzaga evened its record at 4-4.
St. Bonaventure opens Atlantic 10 Conference when they host Dayton on Friday, Oct. 1 at 3 p.m. at McGraw-Jennings Field.
