ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure University men's soccer graduate Shea Currey has earned a prestigious honor as he was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 1 First Team, officials announced Thursday.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early July. Student-athletes are nominated by and voted on by university sports information directors.
Currey graduated from St. Bonaventure in May with a bachelor's degree in marketing with a 3.77 cumulative GPA. He is one of 11 District 1 (Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont) players selected and is one of four Atlantic 10 players in District 1 to be selected. The remainder of the District 1 team is made up of student-athletes from Holy Cross, Fordham, Hofstra, Binghamton, Northeastern and New Hampshire. Two other student-athletes from Saint Joseph's were selected to the District 2 First Team.
On the field, Currey was a staple in the Bonnies lineup for four seasons, playing 52 career games while making 37 starts. He tallied seven goals and five assists in the midfield throughout his career. As a senior in 2021, Currey led the Bonnies with four goals for a total of eight points.
Currey is a two-time member of the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team, having earned honors in 2019 and 2021. He becomes the first St. Bonaventure men's soccer player honored as an Academic All-District selection since Kevin Okapal, '11, earned first team honors in 2010.
Bonnies head coach Kwame Oduro also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District 1 honors in 2005 as a player with Niagara.
