Billikens Prove Too Much For Bonnies Wednesday Night

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Atlantic 10 preseason favorite Saint Louis Wednesday night at the Marra Athletics Complex.

The Billikens (7-2-0, 2-0-0 A-10) broke scoreless contest in the 39th minute thanks to a Christian Buenida, giving Saint Louis a one-goal lead right before halftime.

The Bonnies (3-2-0, 0-2-0 A-10) had a pair of chances on net in the 10th minute of action as Joshua Pulla got in behind the Saint Louis defense and put a shot a net. His shot was saved by the Billiken goalkeeper but Isaac Boamah pounced on the rebound for another chance to score, but he pushed the shot wide.

In the 28th minute, the Bonnies earned a free kick at the top of the box. Shea Currey played a short pass to Fredrik Hansen but his shot was blocked keeping the Brown and White off the board.

Saint Louis added an insurance goal in the 55th minute off a goal from John Klein directly after the Bonnies were shown a red card and were forced to play a man down the remainder of the contest.

The visitors would maintain their two-goal advantage the rest of the way.

Justyn Sandhu made five saves in net for the Bonnies, including four in the second half.

Cuneyt Vardar led St. Bonaventure with two shots while Hansen, Boamah, Pulla and Thomas Yegbor all registered shots.

The Bonnies are back in action on the road Saturday, March 20 at Dayton. The Bonnies and the Flyers are set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
