ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Second half goals from Francesco Caorsi and Fredrik Hansen pushed the St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over George Mason on Senior Night Saturday at the Marra Athletics complex.
The Bonnies (4-9, 1-5) jumped ahead 1-0 in the closing minutes of the first half to take an early advantage. Cuneyt Vardar was on the receiving end of a cross from John Engerman and fired the shot on net and in, putting the Bonnies up 1-0 in the 36th minute.
In the 41st minute, George Mason's Ryan Mingachos had a clean look at the net, but goalkeeper Trevor Wilson made a jumping save, keeping the Patriots off the scoreboard.
In the 59th minute, the Patriots scored a goal of their own to make the score 1-1 early in the second half.
The Bonnies scored just two minutes apart to take control of the contest. Caorsi found the ball on his foot and slotted home his second goal of the season in the 71st minute, with assists being credited to Hansen and Joshua Pulla. Hansen struck for his third marker of the season in the 73rd minute with Pulla securing his second assist on the evening, pushing the Bonnies advantage to 3-1.
Caorsi, Hansen and Shea Currey each had two shots on the night while Wilson finished with five saves in net.
The Bonnies are back in action with an Atlantic 10 contest on the road at Davidson Wednesday, Oct. 23. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
