WEST POINT, N.Y. – Freshman Peter Massaquoi's game-winning goal in the 58th minute propelled the St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Army Tuesday night.
Massaquoi was the recipient of a ball from Cuneyt Vardar and the freshman slotted it home for his first career goal, giving the Bonnies a 3-2 lead that would stick, making his first tally a game-winner.
The Black Knights (2-6-3, 0-2-3) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 10th minute when Cooper Warren found the back of the net.
The Bonnies (3-9, 0-5) would respond quickly to halt the Army momentum.
Sophomore Julius Stefansson was on the receiving end of a Jacob Dyck pass and buried the shot into the bottom left side of the net in the 18th minute, tying the game at 1-1. For Stefansson, that goal marked his first points wearing the Brown and White.
Army responded late in the first half in the 44th minute, tying the game back up at 2-2 heading into halftime before Massaquoi could register the game-changing goal.
Dyck led the Bonnies offense with four shots on the night while goalkeeper Trevor Wilson stopped six Army shots.
The Bonnies are back in action Saturday, Oct. 19 when they host George Mason to the Marra Athletics Complex. Prior to kickoff on Saturday, St. Bonaventure will honor its six seniors – Jacob Dyck, Jon-Michael Perkins, Antonio Simora, Nicholas Mazzola, Kyle Cunningham and Aidan Conaghan.
