Bonnies Suffer 2-0 Setback To VCU In A-10 Opener

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team could not overcome an early deficit, falling 2-0 to VCU Saturday at the Marra Athletics Complex.

VCU (2-4, 1-0) struck first midway through the first half. A low through ball found the foot of Jared Greene in the 28th minute and he slotted it home, giving the Rams a 1-0 edge.

Goalkeeper Trevor Wilson was able to keep the Rams off the scoreboard early in the game, going full extension to make a stop on a free kick in the 15th minute. He made a total of three saves on the night.

Junior Francesco Caorsi almost found the equalizer when his 57th minute shot took a deflection off a Ram defender but the goalkeeper managed to still turn the shot away, leaving the Bonnies (2-4, 0-1) scoreless.

Moments later in the 65th minute, senior Jacob Dyck had a clean look on the net but the VCU defense held strong.

The Rams struck again in the 71st minute on a Biska Biyombo goal, pushing their lead to 2-0.

Dyck and Caorsi led the Bonnies offense with three shots each. As a team, the Bonnies outshot the Rams, 10-3.

The Bonnies are back in action Tuesday, Sept. 24 on the road at Little Three rival Niagara. That game is slated for 7:00 p.m.
