Bonnies Soar Past Little Three Rival Canisius, 3-0

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team's offense came to life, scoring three times en route to a 3-0 victory over Little Three Rival Canisius Tuesday evening at the Marra Athletics Complex.

The Bonnies fell shorthanded after a red card in the 43rd minute, but that did not stop them from finding the back of the net.

Isaac Boamah jolted the Bona offense in the 44th minute after Jacob Dyck found him on the left. Boamah dribbled through three defenders and snuck in the shot near post after his strike deflected off a Canisius defender, giving the Bonnies a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

The Bonnies (2-3) continued their offensive pressure in the second half after another red card leveled the playing field.

St. Bonaventure held the Griffs off the board during the early minutes of the second half, then a red card issued to Canisius left the rest of the game in a 10v10 situation.

As the minutes ticked away, Luca Nicastro found space in the middle of the box where the Canisius goalkeeper deflected it straight to Dyck. The senior forward, who had narrowly missed the net on an open look during the first half, did not miss this time, pushing the Bonnies' lead to 2-0 in the 80th minute.

Junior Fredrik Hansen denied the Golden Griffins (1-4) any chance of a late comeback with a goal of his own in the 89th minute, making the score 3-0.

Trevor Wilson earned the start in net, making three saves and earning his first shutout in a Bonnies uniform.

Hansen and Dyck led the way with four shots each on the offensive end.

For St. Bonaventure, Tuesday snapped a long drought vs. their Little Three rival - it is the first win for the Bonnies over the Golden Griffins since 2010.

The Bonnies open Atlantic 10 Conference play against VCU Saturday, Sept. 21 at the Marra Athletics Complex. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
