BALTIMORE, MD – Junior midfielder Francesco Caorsi's goal in the 11th minute pushed the St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory against UMBC Sunday evening.
Caorsi, a transfer from the University of Central Arkansas, put the Bonnies on top in the 11th minute with his first career goal wearing Brown and White. Shea Currey was credited with his first assist of the year.
Cuneyt Vardar, Jacob Dyck and Fredrik Hansen all had shots in the first half as well.
The Bonnies defense would take care of the rest, helping secure their first win of the season.
Freshman goalkeeper Justyn Sandhu earned his first career clean sheet making three saves. In the 67th minute, Sandhu pushed a shot away, forcing the ball the hit the crossbar and preserved the Bonnies 1-0 lead. In his first two career starts this weekend, just one goal was counted against Sandhu.
The Bonnies' defensive backline held strong in the second half, fending off attack after attack from UMBC, which fell to 1-3 but went 10-6-4 last season and reached the America East Championship Game.
Dyck ended the night with three shots while Caorsi and Vardar finished with two.
The Bonnies improve to 1-2 on the season and now have a week off before making their home debut Sunday, Nov. 15 against Hartford. That game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start.
