The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team travels to VCU for its final Atlantic 10 regular season contest. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.

The Bonnies kept their Atlantic 10 Tournament chances alive with a 3-2 comeback win against Duquesne last Saturday. Shea Currey put the Bonnies on the board first with the help of Kosi Nwafornso in the 11th minute. After falling behind, 2-1, Nwafornso drew a penalty shot in the Duquesne box and successfully converted his fifth penalty shot of the season to tie the game at 2-2. With less than a minute to play, Anthony Gaglianese found Jon-Michael Perkins on the far side of the field and Perkins was able to bury the game-winner.

Last season, St. Bonaventure and VCU played each other on the last day of the regular season with the Bonnies coming out on top, 2-1. The Rams at the time were ranked No. 22 in the national Top 25 poll and St. Bonaventure, which entered the day needing a win to get into the Atlantic 10 Tournament, clinched a berth in the postseason.

The Bonnies currently sit eighth in the A-10 standings with nine points heading into their final game. Bona can clinch a playoff spot with the following scenarios:

  • St. Bonaventure win vs. VCU.
  • St. Bonaventure draw vs. VCU, Saint Joseph's loss or draw vs. Saint Louis and Duquesne loss or draw vs. Davidson.
  • Saint Joseph's loss vs. Saint Louis, Duquesne loss vs. Davidson
  • Bonnies advance via head-to-head tiebreaker over UMass in the event of a UMass win over George Washington and both teams finish with nine points
  • St. Bonaventure earns the seventh seed with draw or win vs. VCU and Dayton loss vs. Fordham (Bonnies hold head-to-head tiebreaker over Dayton)

VCU comes into Wednesday's contest with an overall record of 9-5-1 and 5-1-1 in the Atlantic 10. The Rams are coming off a 1-0 loss to Dayton last Saturday but still sit atop of the A-10 standings. Siad Haji and Jared Greene each have five goals, pacing the Rams' offense. Haji has added a team high eight assists for a total of 18 points. Mario Sequeira has played in 15 games and has made 44 saves allowing just 14 goals on the year.

If the Bonnies clinch a postseason berth Wednesday night, the first round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament is set for Sunday, Nov. 4 at the campus site of the higher-seed with a start time to be announced.
