NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Senior forward Kosi Nwafornso has earned Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors, conference officials announced Monday.
The Abuja, Nigeria native tallied six points last week with two goals and two assists, helping the Bonnies to a 2-0 record against Howard and Duquesne.
Against Howard, Nwafornso scored the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute, putting the Bonnies ahead for good. Just over a minute later he assisted on Jacob Jashinski's first career collegiate goal to make the score 2-0.
In the Bonnies' contest against Duquesne last Saturday, the senior hit a low driven pass through the box to Shea Currey, who slotted home the goal to give the Bonnies a 1-0 lead. Bona trailed 2-1 early in the second half, but Nwafornso was able to draw a foul in the box and change that. He stepped up and buried the penalty kick to tie the game at 2-2. The Bonnies went on to win, 3-2, with a goal in the final minute, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
This season, Nwafornso has nine goals and four assists for a total of 22 points, all team highs.
He shares this week's honors with Fordham's Janos Loebe.
The Bonnies currently sit in eighth place in the Atlantic 10 standings with one regular season game to play against VCU Wednesday, Oct. 31.
