Jashinski Scores First Career Goal To Lead Bonnies Past Howard, 2-0

Three Keys to the Game

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Jacob Jashinski scored his first career goal and senior Kosi Nwafornso added his eighth score of the season as the St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team defeated the Howard Bison, 2-0, Wednesday night at the Marra Athletics Complex.

The win moves the Bonnies to 6-8-1 on the year.

The Bonnies had a terrific chance in the fifth minute to take the early lead as Nwafornso had a one-on-one opportunity with the Bison goalkeeper. He made a move on the goalkeeper and shot the ball just over the crossbar, keeping the score 0-0.

Senior Luke Iacobellis made a fantastic save on a one-on-one opportunity in the 20th minute, keeping the game scoreless.

Bona and Howard remained scoreless through halftime and into the middle stages of the second half.

Freshman Jacob Jashinski took the ball into the box through multiple Howard defenders in the 65th minute and had his shot saved, keeping the game 0-0.

The Bonnies found the score they were looking for just several minutes later.

In the 72nd minute Nwafornso got his opportunity to break the deadlock again and capitalized with a goal off a pass into the box from sophomore Shea Currey to give the Bonnies a 1-0 lead. Cuneyt Vardar was also credited with an assist.

A minute later, Jashinski scored his first collegiate goal off an assist from Nwafornso and senior Nikko Richards, making the score 2-0.

The Bonnies out-shot the Bison 14-11 on the night. Nwafornso, Currey and Jashinski each had two shots to pace the Bonnies offense. In net, Iacobellis made eight saves on his way to his sixth shutout of the season.

The Bonnies will play their last home game of the season Saturday, Oct. 27 against Atlantic 10 opponent, Duquesne at Marra Athletics Complex.
