SYRACUSE – The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team was defeated by No. 24 Syracuse, 7-0, Tuesday night on the road.
The nationally-ranked Orange were able to grab the momentum right out of the gate when Sondre Norheim headed home a corner kick in the fourth minute, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead.
A minute and five seconds later in the fifth minute, Tajon Buchanan extended the Syracuse advantage to 2-0 with his sixth goal of the season.
The Orange and Buchanan struck again in the 21st minute, making the score 3-0.
Senior Kosi Nwafornso was able to find enough space for a shot in the 27th minute, but the shot was saved by the Orange goalkeeper.
After taking a 3-0 edge to halftime, Syracuse added two insurance goals early in the second half. Julio Fulcar scored in the 59th minute and Buchanan completed his hat-trick in the 61st minute.
Severin Soerlie added a sixth goal for Syracuse in the 71st minute and Norheim finished the scoring with a goal in the 90th minute, sealing the Syracuse win.
Senior goalkeeper Luke Iacobellis made nine saves in net for the Bonnies.
St. Bonaventure falls to 5-7-1 on the year while Syracuse improves to 7-4-1.
The Bonnies return to action Saturday at Saint Joseph's as Atlantic 10 play continues. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
