ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Senior forward Kosi Nwafornso netted his sixth goal of the season, but it was not enough as the St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team fell to Rhode Island, 3-1, Saturday night.
In a game played in heavy rain during the first half, Rhode Island, receiving votes in the latest national Top 25 poll, was able to take an early 1-0 lead in the 14th minute. Dominik Richter curled a free-kick from just outside the box around the St. Bonaventure wall for the goal.
The Rams answered back, however, just 56 seconds later on Richter's second goal of the night.
Bona had a chance to even the game in the 58th minute. After Nicholas Mazzola sent a corner into the box, Ethan Yeung found Isaiah Wilson but the shot was blocked. Wilson also hit the crossbar with just under nine minutes to play.
Rhode Island added a third goal in the 69th minute from Stavros Zarokostas.
The Bonnies fall to 5-4-1 and 2-1-0 in the Atlantic 10 while Rhode Island moves to 8-2-0 and 2-1-0.
Following the game the Bonnies honored their nine seniors – Tyler Elliott, Luke Iacobellis, Kwame Opoku, Remi Dujardin, Isaiah Wilson, Nikko Richards, Anthony Sileo, Anthony Gaglianese and Kosi Nwafornso.
St. Bonaventure returns to action next Wednesday on the road for an A-10 matchup against George Washington. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
