The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team travels to Amherst, Mass. for its first Atlantic 10 contest of the season against UMass on Saturday, Sept. 29. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bonnies have been off since Sept. 22 when they traveled to Buffalo for a Little Three game against Canisius. The Golden Griffins came out on top with a 4-0 victory. Kosi Nwafornso had five shots and Luke Iacobellis made two saves in net.
St. Bonaventure and UMass last met in the 2016 season, when the Minutemen grabbed a 1-0 win over the Bonnies at Rudd Field in Amherst, Mass. The Brown and White's last victory over UMass came on Oct. 26, 2012 on the road – a 4-1 triumph for the Bonnies. Overall, UMass leads the all-time series, 20-4-1.
PACING THE PACK
The Bonnies sit in the top three of multiple statistics categories as a team and individually in the Atlantic 10. As a team, the Bonnies are third in corner kicks per game in the A-10 with a 6.29 mark. Defensively, Bona is second in the A-10 with a .571 shutout percentage. Senior Kosi Nwafornso leads the A-10 in game-winning goals (three) and successfully converted penalty kicks (three). Nwafornso is second in the A-10 with .71 goals per game and goals with five goals. He is also third in the A-10 with 11 total points.
UMass enters Saturday's contest with a record of 4-3-2 after its first nine games. The Minutemen have wins over Saint Peter's, Bryant, Hartford and Central Connecticut State. UMass is coming off a loss to Dartmouth, 1-0, in double overtime Sept. 22. Jack Fulton and DeAndrae Brown each have four goals, tying them for the team lead. UMass was picked to finish third in this season's A-10 preseason ranking and received votes in the first national Top 25 poll of the year on Aug. 7.
The Bonnies return home for a pair of Atlantic 10 matchups against Dayton and Rhode Island after the UMass trip. Bona will play Dayton Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 7:00 p.m. and they welcome Rhode Island Saturday, Oct. 6 also at 7:00 p.m. Prior to next Saturday's game against Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure will honor its seniors at the Marra Athletics Complex.
