Men's Soccer Wins First Game of Season, 2-0, at Hartford Friday Night

Three Keys To The Game

  • Kosi Nwafornso netted his second goal of the season and his first assist of 2018
  • Fredrik Hansen scored his first goal as a Bonnie in the 68th minute to solidify the win
  • Senior Luke Iacobellis registered his second shutout of the season and ninth of his career

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team used second half goals from senior Kosi Nwafornso and newcomer Fredrik Hansen on Friday to earn its first victory of 2018, 2-0 against Hartford. With the win, the Bonnies improve to 1-1-1 on the season.

For Hansen, it marked his first career goal while wearing the Brown and White, while Nwafornso netted his second goal of the year and his first assist.

The Bonnies found their groove in the second half when in the 64th minute Kosi Nwafornso positioned himself in front of net for a rebound, scoring his second goal on the season. The score was set up by the returning Remi Dujardin whose effort allowed Nwafornso to tap in Dujardin's attempt on net.

The North Point, Hong Kong native made his season debut after missing the first two games of the year. Dujardin missed the past two contests after playing for the U-23 Hong Kong National Team in the 2018 Asian Games.

Just minutes later in the 68th minute the Bonnies struck again.

Nwafornso added to his point total for the night when he intercepted the Hartford clear attempt and found Hansen on the give-and-go in front of the box, giving the Bonnies a 2-0 lead.

In net, Luke Iacobellis stopped two shots for his second shutout of the season and ninth of his career.

Dujardin, Ethan Yeung and Cuneyt Vardar each had a shot of the own on the night.

The Bonnies are back in action Monday, Sept. 3 on the road at Albany. That match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. St. Bonaventure's next home contest is slated for Saturday, Sept. 15 against Little Three rival Niagara.
