Bonnies Fight Colonials To 0-0 Double Overtime Draw

Three Keys To The Game

  • St. Bonaventure and Robert Morris played in a double overtime contest for the second consecutive season.
  • Kosi Nwafornso fought off three defenders before launching a missile just over the crossbar in the 83rd minute.
  • Goalkeeper Luke Iacobellis made a key save in a one-on-one situation in the 83rd minute on his way to his first shutout of the season.

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – For the second time in as many years St. Bonaventure and Robert Morris fought in a double overtime game Sunday afternoon at the Marra Athletics Complex. This season, however, the two teams played to a 0-0 draw despite multiple chances for both sides.

The Bonnies controlled possession of the ball for the majority of the first half, but could only muster three shots in the period.

The second half was a different story.

Bona fired 11 shots in the second period, putting pressure on the back line of Robert Morris. In the 83rd minute, Kosi Nwafornso battled through three Colonial defenders and made his way to the top of the penalty box. The senior forward launched a missile just over the crossbar, leaving things scoreless despite a great scoring opportunity.

Also in the 83rd minute, senior goalkeeper Luke Iacobellis found himself against RMU forward Zac Sherman in a one-on-one situation. Iacobellis made a clutch save to preserve the shutout.

St. Bonaventure outshot Robert Morris 17-13 with Nwafornso leading the way with five shots. Freshman Cuneyt Vardar posted three while Fredrik Hansen and John Scott each had two shots. Iacobellis made four saves on the afternoon in net, recording a clean sheet.

The Bonnies take the field again on Friday, Aug. 31 on the road at Hartford. That match is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
