Bonso Earns Spot on Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – St. Bonaventure University men's soccer freshman Nicola Bonso has been named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team for his efforts throughout the 2017 season, conference officials announced Wednesday.

Bonso played a key role in the Bonnies backline this season, a season in which the Brown and White earned their first Atlantic 10 Tournament berth since 2010. The freshman from Venezia Mestre, Italy tallied three goals and two assists this season, and his eight points ranked fourth on the team.

Bonso was the lone player to start in all 19 of the Bonnies' games this season. His 1,755 minutes played was the most on the team this season by any player.

Bonso was an integral park in a Bonaventure backline that was responsible for five shutouts this season, the most shutouts for the team in a single season since the 2010 season.

Bonso earned Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Nov. 6 adding to his season accolades.

This marks the third straight season St. Bonaventure men's soccer has had a player named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team. Kosi Nwafornso earned recognition in 2015 and Paul Afful did so in 2016.

St. Bonaventure finished the season 8-9-2 overall including a 4-4 mark in the conference play. The Bonnies earned the seventh spot in the A-10 regular season standings with their most wins since 2013.
